Body contouring surgery cost in India generally runs from about Rs 50,000 for a single small area to several lakh for a staged, whole-body plan. Price depends on how much skin is removed, how many areas are treated together, and how long you are under anaesthesia. Most post-weight-loss patients budget across stages, not one bill.
If you have lost a large amount of weight, you are probably not pricing one operation. You are pricing a journey, and often you have already spent heavily on bariatric surgery or on months of GLP-1 medication. This page sets out what each procedure costs, what a full staged plan costs, what a quote does and does not include, and where insurance occasionally applies.
There is no single figure, and any clinic quoting one before examining you is guessing. The cost of body contouring after weight loss is driven by four things: the number of areas treated, the weight of tissue removed, total operating time, and whether the case needs one stage or several.
In our clinic in Surat we commonly see two very different cases carrying the same procedure name. A patient who lost 20 kg and wants a flatter abdomen is a shorter, simpler operation than a patient who lost 60 kg after bariatric surgery and needs a hanging apron removed, muscle repair, and a vertical scar as well as a horizontal one. Both are called a tummy tuck. They are not the same operation and they are not the same price.
The figures below are typical published ranges for these procedures in India, gathered from Indian hospital and clinic cost listings. They are a planning guide, not a quote from this clinic.
| Procedure | Typical published range in India | Usual stage |
|---|---|---|
| Liposuction, single area | Rs 50,000 to Rs 2,50,000 | Often combined |
| Tummy tuck after weight loss | Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 2,50,000 | Stage one |
| Belt lipectomy or lower body lift | Rs 3,00,000 to Rs 6,00,000 | Stage one |
| Arm lift (brachioplasty) | Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 3,50,000 | Stage two |
| Thigh lift | Rs 70,000 to Rs 2,50,000 | Stage two |
| Breast surgery after weight loss | Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 2,00,000 | Stage two |
| Male chest correction | Rs 45,000 to Rs 1,00,000 | Stage two |
Where a range is wide, the lower end generally reflects a smaller clinic setting and a simpler case, and the upper end a super-speciality hospital, a longer operation, or several areas treated together. Belt lipectomy figures are drawn from metro clinics, where pricing usually sits at the top of the national range.
These are published market ranges, not quotes. The figure that applies to you moves with your condition, your requirement, and what is found on examination. Two people booking the same procedure in the same week can be quoted differently, and that is normal rather than a sign that something is wrong.
A post-weight-loss tummy tuck costs more than a cosmetic one, and it is worth understanding why before you compare quotes. The operation is longer, removes far more tissue, and frequently needs a vertical scar in addition to the standard horizontal one.
Three things push the price up. First, the volume of skin removed, which changes operating time and theatre cost. Second, whether the abdominal muscles have separated and need repair. Third, whether a hanging apron of skin, called a pannus, has caused recurrent rashes or infection, which sometimes changes how the case is classified. See tummy tuck and abdominal reconstruction for what the surgery involves.
A belt lipectomy, also called a circumferential lower body lift, is the largest single operation in post-weight-loss contouring and sits at the top of the price range. It treats the abdomen, flanks, back and buttocks in one continuous operation, with an incision that travels all the way around the body.
Because it is long and involves significant fluid shifts, it needs a longer theatre booking and a longer inpatient stay than a tummy tuck. That is most of the cost difference. Details are on the body lift and lower body surgery page.
Arm lifts and thigh lifts sit in the middle of the range and are usually planned for the second stage rather than the first. They are shorter operations than abdominal work, but scar management matters more because the scars sit in more visible or higher-friction areas.
Patients often ask whether both can be done together to save money. Frequently they can, and combining them into one anaesthetic is usually cheaper than two separate admissions. Whether that is safe for you depends on your total operating time and your general health. See arm, thigh and leg contouring.
This is the number that actually matters, and almost nobody publishes it. Post-weight-loss contouring is rarely one operation. It is usually three phases spread over 12 to 18 months, with recovery time between each.
Added together, a full staged journey in India commonly lands somewhere between roughly Rs 2.5 lakh for a simpler two-stage plan and Rs 10 lakh or more for a complete circumferential plan covering several areas. That is the arithmetic of the table above, not a quote, and your own total depends entirely on how many areas you actually need.
Spreading the plan this way is not only about money. It is safer, because total operating time in any one sitting is limited, and each stage needs healing before the next. The budgeting advantage is real though: you are funding three smaller amounts over more than a year rather than one large one. The total body transformation programme sets out how the stages are sequenced.
At Elegance Clinic a written estimate covers the surgeon's fee, anaesthetist's fee, operating theatre charges, the hospital stay for that admission, standard post-operative dressings, the compression garment for that area, and routine follow-up visits for that stage.
Ask any clinic to itemise these six lines. A quote that gives one total with no breakdown is the most common reason patients feel misled later, because the cheap-looking number often turns out to exclude theatre or anaesthesia.
Some things sit outside the quoted surgical price and you should budget for them separately.
Sometimes, and the line sits in a specific place. Purely cosmetic contouring is not covered. Surgery to correct a documented medical problem caused by excess skin can be, depending on your policy and your insurer.
The cases most likely to be considered are a hanging abdominal apron causing repeated skin infection or ulceration, intertrigo that has not settled with medical treatment, or skin that demonstrably limits walking, hygiene or daily function. Insurers usually want a documented treatment history, photographs and a specialist note rather than a single letter.
Verify rather than assume. Policies differ widely between insurers in India and between individual and corporate cover, so check your own policy wording and pre-authorisation process before you plan around it. The NHS guidance on cosmetic procedures is a useful neutral explanation of where the cosmetic and reconstructive line normally falls.
Yes. EMI options are available and most post-weight-loss patients use them, particularly for stage one. Because the plan is staged anyway, many patients finance each stage separately rather than borrowing the full amount at the start.
Current plans, tenures and the documents you need are on the EMI options page.
Because they are frequently not quoting the same thing. Before comparing two numbers, check four points.
A quote that looks 30 percent cheaper often turns out to exclude two of these four. That is worth establishing before you choose on price.
We do not quote over the phone, because a number given without examining you is not a real number. At consultation Dr Shah examines the areas, discusses what is realistic in what order, and you leave with a written, itemised estimate for stage one and an indicative figure for the later stages so you can plan the whole journey.
Patients from outside Surat can begin with a teleconsultation and get an indicative range before travelling. If you are not yet eligible, because your weight has not been stable for six to twelve months or your nutrition needs correcting first, we will tell you that rather than book you.
